Question by Mona L: Can I root a small limb off of my douglas or frasier fir christmas tree? If so, how do I do it?
Can you give me specific directions for rooting a small piece of my douglas or frasier fir Christmas tree? I put it in water as soon as it was cut off of our tree to fit in our house.

While some trees can be rooted from new growth cuttings (in the springtime) evergreen trees are not going to root with this method. The best way to “get a tree” from your Christmas tree is to look and see if there are any cones on it and plant the seeds contained inside.

A Slim Artificial Christmas Tree can be the Perfect Solution for a Small Space
At Christmastime, many who celebrate this holiday would love to have a huge Christmas tree in their living room, loaded with lights and ornaments and plenty of room beneath for gifts. But there are many people, whether they live with family or alone, who just don’t have room for a big Christmas tree. Quite often, that means that they either go without a tree or settle for a smaller one for the holidays. But with the introduction of the slim artificial Christmas tree, that does not have to be the case.
Slim artificial Christmas trees are now made by many holiday companies, and some even specialize in them. The traditional Christmas tree shape is preserved, while less space on the floor is used by these plastic plants. Some of these slim artificial Christmas trees are intended to be used exactly as you would a traditional tree: set in the corner of the room, with the impact of a full-sized tree, but taking up far less space. Other’s are designed more in the style of book ends, sold potted in pairs, to grace your fireplace, doorway, or any entrance.
They have a realistic appearance, as slim artificial Christmas trees are made to look like tree varieties that are popular, such as firs, pines, or even spruces. This realism of the artificial tree, even though it is slim, gives the impression of a freshly cut tree in your room, instead of just what you could fit in a corner.
Slim artificial Christmas trees are found either already decorated or plain. You have more freedom with a plain tree to string lights, ornaments, and tinsel, as well as place an angel or whatever you choose at the top of the tree. You can own a beautiful tree without taking the time, or doing the work to make it look great with a pre-decorated tree. Bows, ornaments and garland can adorn your tree and make it look fuller and grander, while still taking up very little room.
As Marlia Brightston’s favorite thing is decorating for the holidays, she does it well. She uses artificial Christmas trees so that she can decorate early and leave it up for as long as she wants. Marlia has also been known to fill her home with led pre lit trees and wreaths which adds a nice touch.
